Sea buckthorn is a delicious and very healthy berry. You can grow it on your personal plot. If desired, you can increase the number of plants using cuttings. It is undesirable to use seeds for reproduction, since mature trees will lack varietal qualities.

For reproduction, it is best to take varietal sea buckthorn. If small grows in your area, purchase cuttings from a gardening store. It cannot be guaranteed that all of them will take root, so buy with a small margin.

If you decide to take cuttings from plants that grow in your garden, do so in late fall. Cut off annual growths in November - the length should be about 30-40 cm, and the diameter is 0.5-0.6 mm. Tie the branches into a bunch, wrap with a damp cloth, and place in a large plastic bag. Store outdoors under a layer of snow until spring.

It is advisable to prepare beds for planting young cuttings in the fall. If you don't have time to do this, start digging and fertilizing as soon as the snow melts. Add mineral fertilizers to the soil - strictly observe the dosage indicated on the package. Add rotted manure, at the rate of 3 kg per 1 sq. m Dig up the earth to a depth of 20-25 cm.

Immerse the prepared cuttings in water for 5 days before planting. Plant them in the ground at a distance of 10 cm from each other. Water well. Place arcs and stretch a breathable film on them, but you do not need to close the sides. Maintain soil moisture, periodically remove weeds and loosen.

Roots on the cuttings will appear in a few weeks, at which time the plants will begin to grow faster. As soon as their height increases by 10-15 cm, remove the film. Towards autumn, mulch the plantings with peat and dry leaves, spread the poisoned rodent bait. In the spring, remove the dead cuttings - there may be about 40% of them.

In the second year in the fall, you can transplant the sea buckthorn to another place. Mature plants need more nutrients, moisture and sun, so increase the distance between bushes to 1 meter if the area allows. Do not forget to remove dried branches and apply mineral fertilizers twice a summer.
