Unlike a short circuit, which is a real accident, the consequences of an overload in the power supply network are not immediately visible: they can only appear after a while. Overload can be caused by internal and external factors, so you need to find it as soon as possible.

  • - accompanying instructions for household appliances;
  • - calculator.

Instructions

Step 1

An overload in the wiring can occur if the load on the network exceeds the design values. The reason for this is that the power wire is not capable of passing more current than the amount for which it is designed.

Step 2

Make sure the selected wire is suitable for the expected load. For example, a copper power wire with a cross-sectional area of 1.5 mm2 is designed for a current of 15 amperes. In this case, this wire must be protected by a special 15A circuit breaker. The presence of such protection will prevent the occurrence of a short circuit and, as a result, a fire: if a load is given more than the prescribed one, then the circuit breaker will trip, which will turn off the power to the wiring.

Step 3

If the circuit breaker often starts to trip, do not make a hasty conclusion, believing that it is out of order. Perhaps this element is not broken at all, but is doing its job properly. In order to come to the correct conclusion, perform an approximate calculation of the load created by the devices connected to the mains. Perhaps the electrical wiring is really overloaded.

Step 4

The reason for the frequent tripping of the circuit breaker may be old wiring that has long outlived its usefulness. As a rule, the isolation of such a network is no longer able to perform its functions efficiently, which leads to overload and even shortening. To remedy this situation, disconnect from the mains those devices that you do not use: this will reduce the load on the network and nullify the occurrence of overload.

Step 5

To find the cause of the overload, if the wire meets all the parameters of the network, first turn off all electrical appliances in the house.

Step 6

Then gradually turn on one by one, in particular those that are constantly included in the network. If the circuit breaker trips when you turn on any device, you will find a weak part of the wiring. It may need to be replaced (depending on its condition) or connected to other sockets in order to more evenly distribute the load.
