So how to wash the scotch tape off the glass without damaging the delicate material.

Glass cleaning rules - what is possible and what is not

Glass is chemically resistant and does not react with cleaning agents. The reasons for the destruction of glass surfaces are usually gross physical effects or temperature factor.

To clean glass, it is dangerous to use:

  • heating method;
  • fabrics and accessories with a hard abrasive coating;
  • care products in the form of powder or granules.

The method of heating areas of the surface with adhering tape or glue residues is used with extreme caution. High temperatures can cause the glass to crack. Changes in temperature values, sharp heating of cold material are especially dangerous. You can remove the tape from glassware by placing the item in hot water, but heating should be done gradually.

Sponges and brushes with a hard cleaning layer will scratch the glass. Powdered products work in a similar way.

Simple ways to clean glass from scotch tape

To clean the surface with a minimum of effort, you need to know how you can clean the adhesive tape from the glass without the risk of damaging it.

Vegetable and essential oils

With the help of any vegetable oil (sunflower, olive and others), you can easily and safely remove the remaining adhesive tape from the glass surface.

Glass is processed in the following order:

  1. Carefully remove the tape by hand, pulling the strip off the edge.
  2. A small amount of oil is dripped onto a cotton pad, swab or napkin.
  3. Apply oil to areas with residues and traces of scotch tape and leave for 15 minutes.
  4. Wipe with a soft cloth.
  5. Degrease the glass with a solution of detergent or ordinary soap.

Any essential oils do the job just as well.

Alcohol solutions

Alcohol is a powerful solvent that easily destroys the viscous structure of the adhesive layer. For glass cleaning, pure alcohol (95 - 96%), as well as less concentrated solutions, are suitable. You can use salicylic or boric alcohol (the alcohol content in pharmacy solutions is 70%), an alcohol solution of chlorhexidine, vodka.

A cotton swab is moistened with alcohol and the contaminated areas are treated. Then wipe the glass with a dry cloth.

Other solvents

In addition to alcohol, the adhesive base of the adhesive tape is dissolved:

  • acetone;
  • White Spirit;
  • petrol;
  • kerosene.

The products are applied pointwise to the places of contamination, without capturing other surfaces (plastic, wood). After cleaning, the glass is wiped with a solution of detergent.

Baking soda

Soda is dissolved in warm water to a slurry state. The composition is gently applied to the glass, covering the sticky areas. The remaining soda is removed with warm water.

Household chemicals

Ordinary glass detergents and special formulations effectively clean the surface from adhesive tape. Use polish and stain removers precisely and accurately.

There are various ways to clean the glass from the tape. Simple home remedies like vegetable oils and baking soda do as well as chemical compounds. The sooner you start cleaning the surface, the less effort the process will require.
