Very often, an unpleasant plaque forms on the soleplate that is difficult to clean and interferes with ironing. A similar problem arises due to the fact that you neglect the temperature regime recommended by the manufacturer. Remember that for silk and synthetics, you should not heat the iron too much, and it is better to iron woolen items with a hot iron through gauze soaked in water. If you are faced with the task of descaling the iron, there are several ways to clean the iron.

Instructions

Step 1

One of the modern methods that will help you cope with this task is a special pencil, which is designed to clean the sole of the iron from carbon deposits. You can buy it at a hardware store. It is easy and convenient to use. Preheat the iron, rub the soleplate with a pencil and wait, the dirt on the surface begins to melt. Then wipe the soleplate with a dry cloth and let the iron cool down. Then rinse it off with clean water to wash away any chemical residue from the sole surface. When a pencil and a hot iron come into contact, a sharp unpleasant odor is formed - the evaporation of ammonia. Try to follow the rules of safety, do not forget to wash your hands after you finish work.

Step 2

You can use the old method to clean your iron. Place a large heap of finely ground salt on top of the newspaper and run the iron as if ironing. Try to press harder on the iron so that the salt is squeezed out from under the soleplate and the iron touches the newspaper. You will see that the newspaper and the salt will darken, which means that the iron has been cleaned. If not all the dirt on the iron has come off, then heat it up again and repeat all over again. This method will help you clean your iron thoroughly. After the iron has cooled down, wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth and then dry.

Step 3

Another easy way to help you clean your iron. Take baking soda, dilute it with a small amount of detergent to form a slurry and apply with a sponge to the sole of the iron. Try to rub the surface intensively and continuously. Then leave the iron for a while so that the sole is saturated with this compound, only then rinse the iron with water and wipe with a dry cloth. When you clean your iron in this way, you do not need to heat it up.

Step 4

There is also a popular method to clean the iron - this is vinegar. When there is nothing at home, you can use this method. Take a coarse cloth (old towel), dampen it with vinegar and rub it firmly into the surface of the sole. If you cannot clean the iron the first time, then repeat again. The vinegar fizzles out quickly, so wet the rag as often as possible. After you clean the soleplate of your iron, heat it up and iron it over an unnecessary rag. Your iron will now be clean.

Step 5

If rust forms on the surface of the iron, then you are pouring cold water into it from the tap, and you should not do this. Use only distilled water, due to its chemical properties, it does not form scale inside the iron. To get rid of rust, fill the iron with anti-scale water (half a teaspoon in a glass of water), heat the iron and let it stand for 20 or 30 minutes to remove the scale, and then rinse it. Now you can safely use the iron and not be afraid that rusty stains will appear on the linen.

Step 6

Many housewives use Silit cleaning agent to get rid of rust. This is how it is done. Warm the iron, turn it upside down and apply the product directly into the holes. Wait 5-10 minutes, and you will see how the dirt will come out to the outside of the sole. Collect dirt with a sponge, especially carefully pick it out from the holes of the sole, and then rinse with warm water and wipe with a dry cloth. You can now iron with a completely clean iron.
