May beetles, or beetles, are insects known to many from childhood. They fly low, buzz loudly, the guys catch them and put them in matchboxes. It would seem that the beetle is a harmless creature. But in fact, this is a dangerous pest that can cause considerable damage to the garden and garden. May beetle larvae gnaw at tree roots, spoil potato tubers, carrots and beets. Adults eat young foliage and can thereby destroy the seedlings. Therefore, gardeners and truck farmers should be able to deal with May beetles.

Necessary

  • - shovel;
  • - onion peel;
  • - white clover seeds;
  • - pelvis;
  • - bulb;
  • - glue or grease;
  • - plastic bottle;
  • - twine;
  • - kvass or fermented jam;
  • - birdhouses;
  • - insecticidal preparations.

Instructions

Step 1

It is necessary to start the fight against May beetles on the site with the destruction of the larvae. They live underground at different times of the year at different depths. It is most convenient to collect them in warm weather, in spring and summer, when they are 10-20 centimeters from the surface. Collect the larvae by hand while digging the soil and destroy.

Step 2

To destroy the larvae of the May beetle, water the ground with an infusion of onion peels. Collect about a third of a bucket of husks, fill with water to the brim and leave for 5-6 days. Then dilute with water in a ratio of 1 to 1 and water the beds with this solution, preferably in warm weather, when the larvae are closer to the surface.

Step 3

Adherents of ecological farming can also use such a method of dealing with May beetles as sodding. The fact is that beetles feel uncomfortable in nitrogenous lands. So plant white clover around the tree trunks. Special bacteria live on its roots, which saturate the soil with nitrogen, assimilating it from the air. The larvae cannot live in such a land. And the weeds will grow inactive.

Step 4

Take care of catching adult beetles as well. To do this, make traps. For example, grease a shallow basin with glue or grease and place a light bulb on the bottom. When it gets slightly dark, put the container with the lamp on in the garden, the pests will fly into the light and stick.

Step 5

You can also make another trap from a plastic bottle. Cut off the top, make four holes in the walls, and thread the string through them. Pour fermented jam or kvass into a bottle, hang a trap on a tree (it is better to make several such structures). The pests will fly inside, will not be able to get out of the bottle and will die. Traps must be constantly inspected and dead beetles removed from there.

Step 6

Also, brush the beetles off the trees every morning. At this time of day, they are sleepy, so they are inactive and will not have time to fly away. Collect insects that have fallen to the ground and destroy them.

Step 7

In the fight against beetles, it is good to attract birds to allies: starlings, blackbirds, rooks. Place several birdhouses in the garden or vegetable garden, the birds will populate the houses and will eat the May beetles, and at the same time other pests. It is also a good idea to settle a hedgehog on the plot: beetles make up an important part of his diet.

Step 8

If all of the above methods do not help to radically solve the problem with May beetles, you will have to resort to using chemicals. "Intra-vir", "Fastak", "Bitoksibatsilin", "Politrin", "Arrivo" are effective against crumbling. But such powerful agents can be used only during the massive summer of beetles, that is, before and after the flowering of trees. Spray the plantings during the day, that's when the beetles feed.
