When entering a second home or during renovation, it is often necessary to dismantle the old plasterboard suspended ceiling. The installation of the ceiling usually takes place in the following order: installation of the lathing, alignment on suspensions, plasterboard cladding, plastering, painting. Disassemble the suspended ceiling in the reverse order.

Necessary

  • - a wet brush for removing plaster;
  • - screw gun with reverse function;
  • - Phillips screwdrivers;
  • - stationery knife.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove the skirting board, if present. If the skirting board is made of polyurethane, then most likely you will not be able to reuse it. Skirting boards break easily when dismantled. Remove all lights and insulate wire ends.

Step 2

Remove the decorative ceiling covering. If wallpaper has been glued to the ceiling, it must be wetted by applying a very damp cloth. Then the wallpaper can be easily removed. The paint will have to be washed away.

Step 3

It is customary to fix drywall sheets across the room. The sheet size is 1200 x 2500 mm. Counting from the corner, determine how the sheet lies and where the seam is. If the ceiling was made using technology, then this seam is closed with a mesh, and then the entire ceiling is plastered. Remove the serpentine construction mesh from the seams. It peels off easily along with the remaining plaster.

Step 4

After removing the serpentine, you will see the self-tapping screws with which the drywall is attached to the crate. This will reveal one cross guide. The metal profile is mounted in the frame with a step of 60 cm between the guides. Departing from the found cross-member by 60 cm, find the place where the drywall is attached to the other guides and wash off all the plaster in this place to see the location of the fasteners.

Step 5

Gently unscrew the screws holding the drywall. Be sure to get the help of one or two other people. When you remove the first sheet, it will be easier for you to dismantle the rest, as you will see where the crate goes.

Step 6

After removing all the drywall, remove short profile cuts from the frame. They are located along the room and are attached to the crossbars with cross connectors.

Step 7

If soundproofing mats have been placed on top of the battens, carefully remove them. They can be reused if necessary. Unhook the hangers that kept the cross members from bending and remove them from the ceiling.

Step 8

Remove the transverse guides by unscrewing the self-tapping screws from the side guides.

Step 9

If you do not plan to re-install a suspended ceiling in the room, the false ceiling begins with the installation of this sheathing element.
