Basic rules for laying linoleum

It is better to choose the width of the roll so that it is possible to lay the linoleum in a whole piece. If this is not possible, then the pieces must be docked so that later the places of their intersection can be hidden.

For a couple of days for laying the material, it is imperative to spread it on a smooth surface. Before the direct flooring, it is recommended to iron the canvas with a hot iron from the back side - then the linoleum will lie flat and will not bubble.

In 1-2 weeks after laying the linoleum, you can also change the skirting boards. It's just that the material takes time to straighten - this should be taken into account when cutting the canvas. There should be a gap of 1 cm between the edge of the covering and the walls - then the skirting board will hide it.

Linoleum should be laid on a clean, smooth surface, otherwise the coating will look very messy, and sharp defects in the old floor can damage the material.

You can glue linoleum, for this, both the floor and the canvas itself are lubricated with glue. This turns out to be more reliable, although when laying linoleum in one piece, this can be omitted.

It is allowed to lay linoleum on an old coating, for example, on worn linoleum, which will serve as the basis for a new layer of material. Two layers will make the floor softer, providing additional sound insulation.

The floor surface is not always flat enough to immediately lay linoleum, so the question arises - what to do, how to properly lay linoleum? In many ways, the solution to the problem will depend on how the floor was previously covered. There are nuances for each specific case.

Laying on a wooden floor

Here the linoleum laying technology will depend on its condition. If the surface is flat, the boards do not stagger, do not bend or creak, then you can put linoleum on them. Otherwise, a poor coating will damage the material from the inside, so the boards will need to be removed to the concrete base or covered with hardboard or plywood. If the plywood is fixed with screws, then their caps need to be leveled to the surface, otherwise it will not be possible to lay the linoleum evenly.

Laying on parquet

If the old coating is parquet, then it must be leveled as much as possible, otherwise the linoleum will begin to crack and deform. If the parquet cannot be put in proper order, then it should be covered with plywood. This linoleum laying will be more correct.

Plywood and chipboard

It is used to level the floor by overlapping worn-out flooring. In addition, it serves as an additional insulation. Plywood sheets are suitable with a thickness of 10 mm to 30. Particleboard under the linoleum is laid in a similar way, only here the thickness of the sheets should be 20-30 mm. The only difference is in the strength and cost of the material. Plywood is stronger, it must be used to cover bad wooden floors, for others, an economical chipboard is suitable.
