Why do you need a voltage regulator for a boiler?

Gas boilers of modern heating systems are sensitive to the quality of the supplying electricity and impose strict requirements on the input alternating voltage: a value of 220 or 230 V (with a tolerance of no more than 5%) and an ideal sinusoidal shape (without breaks and distortions).

Domestic power grids are often unable to provide such characteristics, which leads to both premature wear and malfunction of the volatile components of the boiler, and to serious breakdowns of the device, followed by a violation of the established thermal regime.

Even if the indicators of the electrical network are stable and do not exceed the permissible limits (a rare case for most Russian regions), no one is immune from emergencies caused by natural disasters and the human factor. Wire breaks due to hurricane wind, "freezing rain", improper installation or vandalism are fraught with a sharp drop in voltage or, conversely, a strong surge of electrical energy, which will instantly disable the sensitive microprocessor elements of the boiler (up to complete burnout of the boards).

  • ferroresonant - they are characterized by a small control range, are not able to operate at overloads and distort the shape of the output voltage, therefore, these devices are practically not used to work with gas boilers;
  • electromechanical - have a stabilization accuracy sufficient for gas boilers, however, due to a number of serious shortcomings, they cannot guarantee a high level of safety of the protected equipment. We are talking about low speed (with the exception of some expensive models) and weak filtering of electromagnetic interference, as well as the unreliability of mechanics and possible arcing during operation (the latter is especially dangerous when used in the same room with gas appliances);
  • relay - they work faster than electromechanical ones, but they distort the voltage sine wave and have a stabilization accuracy of 6-8%, this value is not enough to fully protect a modern gas boiler;
  • electronic (triac and thyristor) - meet most of the requirements for power supply parameters, but despite the high cost, they are not able to produce an ideal continuous voltage sinusoid and are sensitive to various interference and overloads;
  • inverter - ahead of other types of stabilizers in terms of basic characteristics and are the best solution for protecting gas boilers, as they meet all their requirements for the quality of power supply!
