Tile adhesive in the bathroom must be chosen based on what kind of tiles the room will be decorated with. There are three types of adhesives suitable for wet areas: cement-based, dispersion and epoxy.

Tile adhesive in the bathroom is selected at once according to several parameters: the size and type of tiles, the type of base for the tiles (concrete, plaster, old tiles, drywall, etc.), the impact force on the tiles (the adhesive for the floor and walls will be different).

Cement-based adhesive

This type of adhesive is suitable for decorating both walls and floors in the bathroom. It contains up to 90% cement mortar. This type of glue is sold in dry form. Before diluting the mixture with water, read the instructions. The bases on which it is recommended to use glue are concrete, plaster, cement. If the bathroom has already been tiled with tiles, then it is necessary to dismantle it.

The advantage of cement-based glue is its versatility and ease of use. A properly prepared mortar easily fills in small irregularities, evens out the surface of both walls and floors. Types of tiles that can be laid out on cement-based glue: expanded clay, ceramic tiles, tiles made from natural materials (marble, granite, etc.).

Dispersion adhesive for tiles

The main advantage of dispersion tile adhesives is a high degree of adhesion. This glue is durable, easy to use. In addition, it can be applied to old tiles, cement subfloors, drywall, painted surfaces, wooden subfloors (pre-reinforced with plywood sheets). It is not recommended to use dispersion adhesive on concrete surfaces, as its adhesion properties will be greatly weakened.

Dispersion glue is produced by manufacturers in a completely finished form in containers of different sizes. After opening, the glue must be used in a short time (1-1, 5 hours). Remaining glue can be covered with a lid so that it does not dry out. The advantage of using dispersion tile adhesive is the long bonding interval. The adhesive mass does not harden within 40-60 minutes, which gives time for even and correct laying of the tiles.

Dispersion glue cannot level the surface, therefore it is applied only to a carefully prepared base. Recommended tile size: 20X30; 30X40; 25X35. Larger claddings are more difficult to bond with dispersion adhesives.

Epoxy tile adhesive

There are three types of epoxy tile adhesive: flowable, in the form of a paste with a thin filler, and in the form of a paste with a mineral filler. Depending on the type of base, you need to choose a certain type. For example, epoxy flowable adhesive is ideal for surfaces with many small cracks and irregularities. Epoxy (reactive) tile adhesive is produced ready-made in containers of different sizes.
