"My home is my castle". Some people are familiar with this English proverb. For living in a house to be safe and comfortable, apartment owners must be very responsible when choosing an entrance door.

Any home, from a modest small apartment to a luxurious country cottage, must first of all be a safe and secure refuge. And besides, cozy and comfortable. And for this, it is necessary that his front door is not only strong and reliable, but also durable, resistant to weather conditions, and helps to keep warm. Finally, the front door should be simply beautiful and harmoniously match the overall decor of the building and apartment.

What are the requirements for external and internal entrance doors

Given the climate and criminal environment in most Russian regions, it is recommended to install double entrance doors. Compared to a single front door, it is both more comfortable in terms of saving heat due to the formation of an air gap in the vestibule (even if it is very narrow when it comes to a city apartment), and safer.

For an external entrance door, the main requirements are durability and resistance to external influences. Moreover, "external influences" are understood as temperature drops, high humidity, precipitation and ultraviolet solar radiation, as well as hacking attempts. Therefore, the best choice would be a metal outer door. In the vast majority of cases, they are made of steel.

A steel door, especially equipped with high-quality locks and additional security elements, will reliably protect your home. Due to its very tight fit to the steel box, there will be no gaps, even the smallest ones. As a result, you will get rid of heat leaks and the penetration of extraneous noise into the house, as well as odors. And in order to prevent heat loss through the surface of such a door (due to the high thermal conductivity of the metal), it is upholstered with various materials: batting, artificial leather, wood, hardboard panels, polymers.

To provide maximum protection against intruders, some types of such doors are equipped with locking pins. They will not allow you to remove the door, even if burglars cut off the door hinges with an autogen or grinder.

There are many types of steel doors. Not all of them are solid: there are a number of doors with decorative glass or wood inserts.

When choosing a steel door, take into account not only your wishes, but also the cost of the product.

A truly reliable and high quality steel door cannot be very cheap.

The internal entrance door must also be strong and reliable enough. But, at the same time, it should harmoniously match the decor of the hallway, go well with wallpaper or other wall coverings, as well as furniture. Therefore, the internal entrance door is usually made of wood. It can be either solid (made of solid wood to the full depth) or paneled.

External doors made of wood and plastic

Wooden front doors are less durable and weather resistant, so they are less reliable than steel models. However, such entrance doors are very common.

It is preferable that the wooden exterior doors are made from a solid solid wood of hard species, such as oak.

If you wish to install a wooden outer door, please note that the manufacturer has complied with the following requirements. First, as already mentioned, choose a solid door made of solid material (oak, beech, or some types of mahogany). Secondly, its outer side must be impregnated with special compounds that prevent wood from rotting, as well as inflammation. Thirdly, the door frame must be of a reinforced structure, contain a threshold, insulation and seals. Pay attention to whether the door is equipped with a sight glass and locking devices (chain type).

It is undesirable to install paneled, and even more so, panel wooden doors, since they will not be a serious obstacle for intruders.

Recently, plastic doors made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are rapidly gaining popularity. Their design is similar to that of windows made of the same material, only of greater thickness and more reinforced profile. Beautiful and elegant in appearance, they are quite strong and reliable, although they are inferior, of course, in this quality to metal doors. An indisputable plus of plastic exterior doors is a relatively low cost.

In any case, when choosing an external door, try to make it strong, reliable, durable, protect well from extraneous noise and heat leaks, and also match your tastes and preferences. And even if you are on a tight budget, remember that the front door is not something to save on.
