Growing strawberries

Strawberries are grown in beds. If the site is overgrown with a "carpet", you should punch paths, divide the plantation into ridges. So it is more convenient to look after her. The roots of the plant are shallow, so the berry is demanding on watering and loosening the soil. But waterlogging should not be allowed. In this case, the bushes "fatten" and weakly lay flower buds, which negatively affects the yield.

Usually strawberries grow in one place for 4-6 years. Then they dig it up and lay the site in a new place. If it is not possible to establish a new plantation, you can rejuvenate the old one. The most suitable time for this is the end of August, when the days will become cool. This requires a good sharp hoe. It is buried 3-4 cm and a part of the plant root is cut off underground. The rejuvenated bushes will yield another 2-3 years.

Planting strawberries

It is advisable to replant the strawberries in August, in this case the bushes will grow well before winter and will yield a harvest the next year. Choose an open, sunny place, as the culture is light-loving. Introduce 4-5 kg of humus, a glass of wood ash and 60 g of superphosphate per 1 m2 for digging. Seedlings are planted according to the scheme of 20-25 cm between bushes and 60-70 cm between rows.

When planting, make sure that the core (growth point) is not covered, otherwise the plant will die. The plantings are watered with a light pink solution of potassium permanganate, the aisles are mulched with straw, manure, sawdust from deciduous trees, or covered with black covering material.

In areas with a harsh continental climate, after the establishment of freezing temperatures, strawberries must be covered for the winter. For this purpose, you can use needles, tree leaves. Also, gardeners need to remember that the success of obtaining high yields depends not only on good agricultural technology, but also on the planting material.
