Self-leveling floors are one of the new trends in interior decoration. Such floors are not only functional, they are beautiful and easy to use, because, due to their increased impact resistance, they can be poured in rooms with high traffic, have heating and even an anti-slip coating.

Types of floors

There are several types of floor composition, which varies depending on the volume of the poured area, traffic and operating conditions.

Universal epoxy floor.

Polyurethane floor. This is, perhaps, the most impact-resistant version of the self-leveling floor, which is used both as an independent coating and as additional protection for existing floors (for example, parquet).

Two-component epoxy compound. This type of coating is designed for wet substrates, the polymer base serves as an excellent waterproofing.

Transparent epoxy floor. Used when creating 3D floors or other design solutions.

Acid and alkali resistant epoxy floor. This type of self-leveling floors is used in places where increased protection from chemicals is required (laboratories, medical institutions, research centers).

How self-leveling floors are made

After inspecting the room and checking the level of the horizontal error, the craftsmen determine how to make the surface screed. With an error of 5 mm or more, a coarse leveling agent with a self-flowing property is used. Less than 5 mm - Finishing leveler is used.

Having decided on this, the masters begin to prepare the surface. It is necessary to remove all dust, dirt, flaking remnants of the former floor: this is very important. After all, if some irregularities remain, then cracks may appear on the future coating, moreover, the pattern will have a flaw.

The next step is the primer, which acts as a bonding agent, increases adhesion and prevents bubbles. It is important to remember that the mixture to be laid must be insulated from the walls. The insulator can be polystyrene or a 1 cm wide cork.

Next, the prepared mixture is thoroughly mixed according to the instructions, let it settle and mix again. The master's mixture is poured out in narrow strips, about 40 cm. The poured surface is leveled with a needle roller, it is convenient to use and helps to get rid of bubbles.

Usually the drawing is poured in a stencil form, but professionals can afford to be creative. It is curious to observe how the master paints not with a brush, but with a huge syringe with pigments.

The advantages of a self-leveling floor

Wear resistance, strength. With proper installation, the self-leveling floor will be resistant to temperature changes, mechanical stress, chemical compositions and aggressive environments.

Environmental friendliness. The self-leveling floor does not emit pungent odors and harmful fumes even during the drying process, it is convenient to use it in children's rooms, bedrooms, sanatoriums and schools.

When the floor dries, it is worth limiting the sun's exposure to the room, eliminating the occurrence of drafts and the possibility of temperature differences. Then the hardened floor will be resistant to external influences.

Ease of care. Since there are no cracks and joints in the filling field, there is simply no place for dirt to accumulate, it is easy to wash it.

Such floors do not allow moisture to pass through, and even in a sense they are antibacterial; moreover, it is convenient to install heating systems under the self-leveling floor.

Longevity. With the correct filling, the floors will serve you for a very long time, they are not afraid of chips, scratches, high pressure.

Large room for imagination, various drawings, landscapes, 3D images - all this allows you to implement even the simplest self-leveling floor.
