Chilean gravilat: planting, cultivation and care

This perennial shrub prefers the sun and is best planted where there is sufficient light. As for the soil, it should be low-acid, so when planting it is best to dig up the earth well, add sand and wood ash to the garden bed or hole. So the plant will be provided with drainage and the acidity level will decrease. You can also raise the bed so that water does not lurk at the roots.

Planting form: each bush should be located 15-20 cm from each other.

Reproduction of gravilat

As a rule, Chilean gravilat is planted with seeds. When mature plants grow, it can also be propagated by dividing the bush: in the spring, the rhizome is divided with a sharp knife and the bushes are transplanted to a new place in well-watered holes. In the southern regions, this can be done in early spring, and to the north, it is better in the fall. After 3-4 years, it is better to update the gravilat.

How to plant Chilean gravilat seeds

This is best done through seedlings. At the beginning of April, seeds are planted in boxes or a greenhouse in depressions of 0.5-1 cm, and with the onset of heat, the sprouts are planted in their permanent habitat. Seedlings, as a rule, appear after 2-3 weeks. When a cold snap sets in, the planted bushes need to be covered with agrofibre, plastic bottles or film. In the first year you will see only greenery, flowers will appear in the second year.

Chilean gravilat care

All this perennial needs is regular watering, removing dried inflorescences and peduncles, loosening the soil under the bush.

Top dressing is carried out 2-3 times over the summer: potassium-phosphate fertilizers or organic fertilizers (manure, humus) must be applied under each bush.

An important condition: before severe frosts, the entire plant is cut off and the soil is mulched with spruce or foliage.

As for diseases, Chilean gravilat is practically not susceptible to damage by pests and diseases.
