Why can a gas boiler go out?

A gas boiler is a complex electronic-gas system, which is controlled by automation. It gives a command to stop operation if any of the sensors gives a signal about a malfunction. The reason for this may be in the boiler itself, and in other heating units: gas pipeline, heating and hot water supply circuits, electrical network, smoke removal system.

Very often, the boiler can go out due to the lack of optimal gas pressure at the inlet. This can be caused by malfunctions of the gas transmission network, as well as internal reasons, which include a malfunction of the gas meter, problems with temperature sensors or gas leaks, loss of tightness of the connections. A drop in pressure can cause gas leaks, in which case the automatic system is triggered and the boiler goes out. To diagnose this malfunction, all joints are checked with soap foam and a sponge - bubbles should appear at the leaks.

Sometimes the meter can jam, and it does not let the gas through in the required volume.

The gas boiler in the house also goes out due to a voltage drop in the electrical network below the permissible level. When the power supply is restored, the automation will turn on the burner again. This mode of operation can harm the electronics, over time it can fail. To avoid this, it is recommended to purchase a voltage regulator.

Why is there no draft in the gas boiler

The gas boiler can go out due to chimney malfunctions (formation of ice, the appearance of reverse draft). The formation of ice leads to the fact that the draft in the chimney is greatly reduced, so the automation turns off the gas boiler. In this case, the pipe must be cleaned and insulated to prevent condensate from freezing.

In boilers with a closed combustion chamber, the thrust is generated by a built-in fan. It can fail partially or completely. As a result, the automation is triggered and the boiler stops working.

Reverse thrust appears when the wind increases. In this case, air enters the chimney and begins to blow out the flame in the boiler. Sometimes this is due to an insufficiently high chimney pipe. In this case, it must be increased so that the upper point is 0.5 m higher than the ridge on the roof.

Often, the flame in the burner of a gas boiler with an open combustion chamber goes out due to poor supply ventilation. In this case, it is enough to open a window or door, and the gas ignites again. The reason for the decrease in thrust is sometimes a pipe burnout. The wind begins to blow into the formed holes, interfering with the normal operation of the chimney. In this case, the pipe needs to be replaced.
