In the Soviet period, standard meters with a nominal value of 5-20 amperes and an error of 2, 5 were installed in each house. On average, such a device served the owner of the premises for about thirty years. Every ten years, the owner of the premises was required to conduct an interim check of the electrical appliance. The interval between checks varied from 8 to 15 years, depending on the meter model.

In Soviet times, such characteristics for the device were considered sufficient for the stable operation of an electrical meter. But nowadays a person already lacks one TV and a kettle in the kitchen. A lot of new devices appeared in the apartment, giving a huge load on utility meters. These are microwave ovens, food processors, toasters and much more, that is, based on the final result, we can safely say that as many electrical appliances work in one room as previously functioned in the entire apartment. Naturally, meters rated for twenty amperes are not able to withstand such loads. They were replaced by instruments with an accuracy class of 2.0.

Since there is a big difference in the accuracy class between the new and the old metering device, there will also be differences in the readings written off from them.

Why is it being changed

The replacement of the electricity meter in residential and non-residential premises is done for reasons of their own safety, as well as in order to reduce the cost of utility bills.

The direct replacement and installation of electricity metering devices is carried out by the management of housing and communal companies. By law, they are subscribers who are obliged to ensure good technical condition and proper protection of the devices in use, and much more.

Even if the dwelling is owned, that is, privatized, the service housing organization should still replace the electric meter.

In any case, even if the apartment is rented, the replacement of metering meters should be carried out by the organization responsible for the housing and communal conditions of all residents of the house entrusted to it. Therefore, self-replacement of the metering device is unacceptable.

To perform this procedure, you should initially contact the housing and communal services with a request to replace the meter. And most importantly, the installation of an electric meter is beneficial, first of all, to the apartment owner himself.
