The renovation of the living space is completed by finishing the ceilings and wall cladding. To give the joints between the wall and the ceiling surface a more perfect and attractive look, a skirting board is used. When attaching such a plinth, you should accurately measure its length and especially carefully perform corner joints.

Necessary

  • - ceiling plinth;
  • - roulette;
  • - pencil;
  • - a sharp knife;
  • - glue;
  • - acrylic sealant;
  • - miter box;
  • - a clean rag.

Instructions

Step 1

Determine how many decorative elements you need to decorate the joints between the ceiling and the wall. To do this, measure the length of each wall in the room and add up the results. You will get the length of the perimeter of the room. Calculate the required number of skirting boards based on the fact that the standard length of one product is two meters. It is advisable to purchase a plinth with a small margin, since a marriage in work is not excluded.

Step 2

Start attaching the baseboard from one corner of the room. In this case, one of the ends of the product will have to be cut off at an angle of 45 degrees. It is quite difficult to do this accurately and smoothly without the use of a special tool. Therefore, it is better to use a miter box. This special device consists of a board with sides, in which grooves for the cutting tool are made, located at different angles.

Step 3

Insert a piece of skirting board into the miter box and cut one end of the element at the required angle with a sharp knife. Leave the other end of the skirting board straight.

Step 4

Lubricate the back surface of the skirting board with a special glue designed for such work. The choice of glue is determined by the material from which the skirting board is made. Attach the skirting board to the joint in the selected location and press it down with your hands, ironing it along the entire length. Remove excess glue with a clean cloth.

Step 5

Make sure the cut end of the skirting board matches the corner of the room exactly. The glue will set for several minutes, so during this time you can correct flaws in the work, if necessary, slightly moving the plinth in the desired direction.

Step 6

In the same way, glue the next element to the joint, while aligning the ends of the products. Attach the plinth consistently around the entire perimeter of the room. In the corners of the room, use shorter pieces of skirting board, trimming them with a miter box and knife as described above. Treat the joints between the elements with white acrylic sealant so that the seams are not conspicuous.

Step 7

Be careful when cutting the ends of the skirting board at an angle if the room has not only internal but also external corners. Before attaching the cut-off piece of skirting board, attach it to the desired location for trying on to make sure that the cut angle is correct.
