Plastic lining has established itself as an excellent material for finishing the bathroom, due to its ease of installation and low price. It can be mounted on both walls and ceilings.

Starting to make repairs in the bathroom, many are thinking about what material to choose for decoration. I would like it to be inexpensive, durable and aesthetic. All these requirements are met by plastic lining. PVC panels have long been a full-fledged alternative to ceramic tiles. Every year the quality of the panels increases, and the number of decors increases.

Using plastic lining in the bathroom

PVC panels are made from polyvinyl chloride. This plastic is resistant to moisture. This makes the lining an excellent finishing material for the bathroom. Contrary to popular belief, mold does not form behind it, at least if the lining is installed correctly and there are no gaps between the panels through which steam can penetrate. The panels are mounted vertically to the wall, so water does not accumulate at the joints, but flows down.

Compared to ceramic tiles, there is less condensation on PVC panels.

Instructions for installing PVC lining in the bathroom

Before installing the lining, the walls must be prepared, old finishing materials and plaster must be removed from them. You can cover them for prevention with a special antifungal composition. Pipes, if they are old, need to be replaced with new plastic ones.

After all the preparatory work has been carried out, a wooden or metal frame is installed on the walls. Experts recommend metal, because although it is more expensive, it is less susceptible to moisture than wood.

Rails are installed on the frame, to which PVC panels are attached. The distance between the slats should be about half a meter.

Plastic panels can be installed on both walls and ceilings.

How to get rid of condensation

To prevent condensation from settling on the panels, it is necessary to think over the ventilation system. A fan must be installed at the exhaust site. The bathroom door should have a small gap at the bottom. This will help the air circulate freely.

Using wooden lining

From a practical point of view, wooden lining should not be installed in the bathroom. Wood is very susceptible to water and deteriorates quickly in damp rooms. In order for the wooden lining to serve longer, it is covered with a special hydrophobic compound that repels water. Lining covered with such a composition can withstand water longer. But in the bathroom, under the influence of high temperatures, such panels begin to release chemicals that are not at all beneficial to human health. Therefore, despite the high aesthetic qualities, it is better to prefer a plastic one to a wooden lining.
