The blind area is a means of protecting the foundation of the house and the walls of the first floor from flooding and gradual destruction, which can result from direct contact with rain and snow. Usually the blind area is a strip of concrete that surrounds the house around the entire perimeter.

Instructions

Step 1

Make a marking of the contours of the blind area. To do this, at each wall, draw an imaginary line from the edge of the roof to the ground and make a mark in this place on the ground. After that, add another 20-30 cm to the resulting segment between the wall and the mark on the ground. This is exactly the width of the future blind area of the house. Install pegs in the corners of the marking and stretch any noticeable rope on them - it will make the boundaries of the blind area clearer.

Step 2

Dig a trench along the markings around the perimeter of the house. The depth of the trench should be 25-30 cm, of which 20 cm will be on the underlying layer, and the remaining space will be needed for the concrete covering of the blind area. Place timber or plywood formwork around the edges of the trench. From the outside of the formwork, drive the pegs into the ground, which will not allow it to deform during the construction of the blind area. The smaller the spacing between these pegs, the lower the risk of deformation.

Step 3

Make an underlayment for the blind area. To do this, first fill the trench with an even layer of sand, which will serve as a kind of pillow for the blind area. The thickness of the layer should be 5-10 cm. After that, the sand must be wetted and properly tamped. Then pour the clay on top of it with a layer of 10-15 cm.

Step 4

Prepare the expansion joint before pouring the concrete cover of the blind area. It will protect the concrete from cracks that occur in frosty weather. Roofing material can be used as such a seam: lay it in a double layer along the perimeter of the house close to the wall.

Step 5

Mark the slope for the concrete cover of the blind area - it should fall from the wall to the outer edge of the blind area so that water can drain freely. The slope should be 5-7 degrees. Make marks on the formwork and walls. After that, pour the concrete. When it hardens a little, align the required slope angle of the blind area with a building rule. Cover the resulting structure with polyethylene film. After two days, the concrete will completely harden, and the blind area will be ready.
