Carpet is a beautiful modern floor covering with long or short pile. It retains heat well, does not require difficult maintenance, and it is also the quietest and most comfortable material of all floor coverings. But in order for him to fully manifest all his useful qualities, it is necessary to properly lay the carpet.

Instructions

Step 1

Before choosing carpet for your apartment, you need to think about where you plan to lay it. If the covering is intended for a bedroom, it is better to stay on a carpet with a long soft pile, which is pleasant to walk on barefoot. For a living room or a nursery, a short-pile coating will be more preferable - it is easier to clean and small objects will not get stuck in it.

Step 2

One of the main advantages of carpet is that it is easy enough to lay down, and it is not difficult to replace it. The only limitation is that carpet cannot be laid directly on a cement screed like linoleum. Fine cement dust will penetrate the carpet even if it is rubberized.

Step 3

Since the carpet is not subject to temperature extremes, it can be laid down immediately after delivery from the store. Since carpet can be sold not only in rolls, but also folded, folds may remain on it. But they are very easy to remove, just slightly moisten the coating with water. To do this, the carpet intended for laying should be spread over the entire surface, sprinkled with water and left for several hours until it dries completely. When all the folds have straightened out and disappeared, you can start laying the flooring.

Step 4

You must first remove all the skirting boards. If you plan to additionally paint or varnish them, this must be done before installing them back - it will be impossible to remove paint or varnish stains from the carpet.

Step 5

The prepared carpet is cut according to the size and shape of the room. For marking panels, it is more convenient to use narrow crayons or dry remnants with a sharp edge. Labels should only be applied to the back of the coating. It is better to use a boot knife to cut the panels, especially if the carpet has a long pile. You can, of course, cut the cover with tailor's scissors, but this is much more difficult and inconvenient.

Step 6

There are several ways to lay carpet and fix it to the floor. The easiest way to do this is with double tape. In this case, the tape is laid along the sides of the room in the form of a net, the lower side is firmly attached to the floor, and the upper side holds the flooring. A similar option is direct gluing, in which the carpet is glued directly to the floor surface. A more complicated way can be double gluing, when the substrate is first laid on the floor, and the carpet is glued to it.

Step 7

The choice of installation method largely depends on the size of the room. If the room does not exceed 25 square meters, it is enough to simply fix the carpet along the length of its walls with double tape and stretch it evenly. But if the room is large - more than 100 sq. m., for high-quality styling, you will need double gluing. After the carpet is completely laid, straightened and stretched, pre-prepared skirting boards are nailed to the sides of the room.
