It is not so easy to grow a lot of tomatoes in your garden, for this you need to properly care for them - from planting seedlings to harvesting. Proper watering, pinching and, of course, protection from pests are important for tomatoes.

Step 1

Start caring for tomatoes from the moment the first sprouts of seedlings appear. It needs to be watered, but not poured, so that mold does not form on the soil, otherwise the black leg can destroy all your labors. Be sure to pick off after the appearance of the real second leaf. At the same time, pinch the tip of the root, then the seedlings will be stronger.

Step 2

When you plant tomatoes in a greenhouse or outdoors, tie them to stakes. But at the same time, the knot should not be tight, otherwise it will over tighten the stem. Be sure to periodically loosen the soil near the stem, from watering a crust appears on it. Water the tomatoes with settled warm water under the root, and not on the leaves, in the morning or evening, but not in the afternoon, especially when hot. On sultry summer days, you can additionally spray, also in the morning or in the evening.

Step 3

Watch out for the appearance of stepsons, as soon as they reach 2-4 cm, remove, leaving a small stump of 1 cm. This will prevent the appearance of a new stepson. Remove the lower leaves on the stem when the fruits of the lower brush begin to turn red. Form the tomatoes into one stem for tall varieties and 2 stems for standard varieties.

Step 4

Feed the tomatoes with slurry after the first ovaries have formed. To do this, dilute it with water in a ratio of 500 ml of slurry to 10 liters of water. Add 1 teaspoon potassium sulfate and 1 teaspoon superphosphate. If the soil under the tomatoes is poor, then do such a top dressing already 3 weeks after planting the seedlings.

Step 5

To prevent late blight, spray tomatoes with 1% Bordeaux liquid or other copper-containing preparations in the middle of summer.

Step 6

To make new tomatoes turn red faster, harvest after the brown color appears on the fruit. Tomatoes ripen very quickly in the room. If the hands are heavy, tie them up additionally to prevent breakage.

Step 7

In mid-August, for central Russia, pinch the tops of the stems and remove all flowers. This will enhance the growth of already set tomatoes. For emergency ripening, you can trim the roots with a sharp shovel or pull them out of the ground up to half. In this case, stop watering. All tomatoes will turn red in a matter of days, although the small ones will no longer gain weight.
