Curved facades are increasingly used in interior design. They give some dynamics to the room and visually expand its boundaries. As a rule, facades are made in the furniture production on order according to the parameters of a certain model, but you can also independently transform your existing cabinet furniture.

Necessary

Fiberboard 3, 2 mm thick

Instructions

Step 1

If you need to make a product of a certain radius, then first make a special template frame. The radius on the end template must match the radius of the future sample. Template frames will be qualitatively obtained from the remnants or waste of chipboard. Use fiberboard with a thickness of 3.2 mm as a material for the facade.

Step 2

Determine how many fiberboard blanks you need for one facade. Proceed from its thickness, if the standard format is 16 mm, then prepare 5 pieces. On the back side, it is better to use fiberboard coated with the same tone with the frames of the finished cabinets, otherwise you will have to spend time painting.

Step 3

Cut the workpieces with a small allowance according to the planned dimensions, clean them from dust. Then apply glue, spread evenly over the entire area. Put the next workpiece on top, apply a layer of glue again. Repeat the action. It is not necessary to grease the latter with glue, because the front and back sides of the facade must remain dry.

Step 4

Fasten the glued fiberboard layers to the frame. First, grab one side with self-tapping screws. Screw the self-tapping screws in place of the allowances. Then bend the entire structure to the shape of the frame, attach the other side. To avoid the formation of waves at the edges of the product, wrap it tightly with stationery tape. For the same purpose, you can fix an even block from above along the edges using a clamp.

Step 5

Wait a few days for it to dry, then remove the tape and screws. It's time to take care that the product does not unbend in the future. Fasten immediately with small screws. Avoid areas with holes for handles and hinges. Cut all edges with a jigsaw, smooth the edges with sanding. If you don't have a sander, then use sandpaper attached to a block.

Step 6

If you notice cracks or not glued voids on the edge, then first glue them, then putty. It remains to drill the necessary holes and paint the finished product.

Step 7

There is another way to make a curved facade, in which you do not need to make a template frame. Use a special MDF board that has slots about 5 mm apart and a smooth texture on both sides. MDF blanks can be fixed on a template, or they can be fixed with the milled sides inward. Then the blanks are glued together. The thickness of MDF is 8 mm. To obtain a standard front of 16 mm, it is enough to glue two blanks. Wait until dry. Bring the product to the desired size, putty the ends.
