Lettuce is one of the early ripening vegetable crops. This means that when you plant it in early spring, you can enjoy crispy, fresh, vitamin-rich leaves in just a couple of weeks.
Necessary
- Seedling tray
- Soil for vegetables
- Water
- Polyethylene film
- Seeds
Instructions
Step 1
Fill the seedling tray with potting soil.
Step 2
Water the soil liberally.
Step 3
Make shallow furrows in the ground 5 centimeters apart.
Step 4
Spread the seeds along the entire length of the furrow, being careful to space them one centimeter apart.
Step 5
Sprinkle soil over the seeds.
Step 6
Cover the tray with transparent plastic wrap or a special lid and place it in a warm, sunny place.
Step 7
Spray the soil regularly, do not let it dry out. Lettuce usually germinates a week after sowing. After another week, you can transplant the seedlings into open ground, at a distance of at least 6 centimeters from each other.
Step 8
The salad is not whimsical and does not require special care, but it needs regular watering. On hot days, it needs to be watered daily, the rest of the time at least once every two to three days.
Step 9
Head lettuce requires more space than leaf lettuce. It is planted at a distance of 20-30 centimeters from each other.
Some lettuce varieties need to be tied during the maturation of the head to obtain a light, tender core.
Step 10
If the air temperature does not drop below 5 degrees Celsius at night, you can plant the salad directly in the open ground. Since the root system of the lettuce is located in the upper layers of the soil, the bed must first be loosened well.
