Plum is one of those plants that delight the gardener twice a year: in the spring you can admire its flowering, and in the summer or early autumn to pick large and juicy berries. Some varieties begin to bear fruit as early as the fourth or fifth year after planting. The easiest way to start a plum on your site is to plant grafted two-year-old seedlings in the ground.

Necessary

  • - Plum seedlings;
  • - humus;
  • - dolomite flour;
  • - ammonium nitrate;
  • - manure;
  • - insecticides.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare an area for planting plums. In the middle lane, two-year-old grafted seedlings are best planted in the ground in early spring. Find a well-lit area with moist, but not swampy, loamy soil. Plum can be planted along the fence, but always from the sunny side.

Step 2

Two weeks before planting, prepare the landing pits half a meter deep and sixty to seventy centimeters in diameter. The distance between the pits should be at least two and a half meters. Mix the soil taken out of the pit with a bucket of humus. Add a pound of dolomite flour or any other soil deoxidizer to acidic soil.

Step 3

To plant plums in the ground, form a cone from a mixture of soil and humus in the planting hole. Spread the roots of the seedling over the surface of this cone and sprinkle them with soil so that the root collar is four centimeters above the soil level. After watering, the soil will settle, and the plant will not be excessively buried. Make a roller around the planting hole and water the seedlings. You will need two buckets of water per plant. Sprinkle the soil with peat or sawdust after watering.

Step 4

In the first few years, it grows, therefore, green growth from the stem and root growth should be removed at least five times during the summer.

Step 5

To feed plums in early spring, add ammonium nitrate or urea to the soil at the rate of ten grams of mineral fertilizer per square meter of soil.

In June, the plum should be fed with organic fertilizers. To do this, dilute one part of fresh manure with ten parts of water and dig a shallow groove around the tree. The groove diameter must match the diameter of the plum crown. Apply the diluted fertilizer to the groove and cover with soil.

Step 6

The main enemies of the plum are the plum moth and sawfly. In order to get rid of these pests, the plant is sprayed with insecticides at the end of May and one month before harvest. These drugs are toxic to humans, therefore, before using them, you should read the instructions and do not neglect personal protective equipment. In other words, use a respirator, rubber gloves and long-sleeved protective clothing to spray.
