Not always ready-made soil from the store is suitable for seedlings. It is highly likely that by transplanting seedlings from a glass to a garden, you will encounter some diseases. It is much better if the seedlings grow from the very beginning in the land in which you intend to plant them. But plants prefer different types of soil, so it is worth thinking about preparing land for spring crops even in the summer.

In order to quickly mix suitable soil for a certain type of planting in the spring, you need to prepare soil mixtures in the summer. To do this, take several sturdy bags and pour the prepared mixtures into them. And in the spring, you just have to take the right amount of soil from each package and plant vegetables in it.

What mixtures should be prepared?

The basis of all mixtures will be sod land, therefore it is it that needs to be harvested in such an amount that it is enough for all the seedlings. The rest of the mixtures are organic additives that are added for nutrition and loosening.

  • Sod land will be the basis for any seedlings. In its pure form, it is suitable for cabbage and flowers. It is easy to prepare it. The best soil will be in meadows where clover, beans, or perennial grasses grow predominantly. Use a shovel to peel off a 10 cm layer of turf in the amount you need, fold it into a box and cover with a dark film. After a few weeks, dig up the turf ground, remove the remaining roots. Transfer clean and uncontaminated soil to a dark bag, dampen a little and put it on the balcony until spring. Sod land is dense, therefore, for seedlings, it is diluted with sawdust or sand in a ratio of 7: 2.

  • Peat is a sterile and light soil that retains water well. For potting mix, add one cup of wood ash to a bucket of peat. Put all this in a bag and moisten with a solution. The solution is easy to prepare: pour a glass of mullein and half a teaspoon of copper sulfate with 3 liters of water. Pour it in slowly so that the peat is well saturated. Do not overdo it. The benefits of excessively moist peat are as zero as dry peat. Close the bag and store it in a warm place.
  • Humus is vegetable and dung. This type of potting soil is rich in organic matter and beneficial microbes. For vegetable crops, it is applied up to 8 kg per 1 m². it can be packed before cold weather and taken out on the balcony.
  • Small sawdust is needed to loosen the sod land. But you need to prepare them correctly so that there is benefit. To do this, pour 10 kg of sawdust with 3 liters of water, to which a couple of tablespoons of urea have been added. After two hours, add a glass of ash to this mixture and pack it in a plastic bag. In spring it can be mixed with peat.

  • Sand, but not from the yard. Sand from a children's sandbox is not good at all. River, large, light is best suited. Quarry sand needs to be washed well.
  • Eggshells will be very useful for seedlings and plants. It reduces the acidity of the soil. To add to the earthen mixture, it must be crushed. It is better to throw the shell from boiled eggs into compost, in the ground there will be no benefit from it. Fresh shells are especially suitable for cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes. To do this, it must be added not only to the seedlings, but also to the hole before planting in the garden.
