Tomato is an extraordinarily successful combination of taste, nutritional value and beauty. The tomato looks beautiful, it has neither thorns nor shells. It is not for nothing that the Germans call it "heavenly apple". But before a tomato gets on the table, it must be grown, which is especially difficult for Siberian regions.

Instructions

Step 1

According to the ripening period, tomatoes are divided into early-ripening, mid-ripening, mid-ripening and late-ripening tomatoes. In early maturing varieties, the vegetation period from germination to maturation ranges from 85 to 100 days. Medium early varieties reach maturity in about 110 days from germination. In mid-ripening and late-ripening varieties, the ripening period ranges from 115 to 120 days. The given terms are approximate, they depend on the methods of cultivation and weather conditions. In the conditions of a short Siberian summer, it is better to give preference to early maturing and mid-early varieties.

Step 2

There is also a gradation of tomato varieties according to the type of growth. Tomatoes with unlimited growth are called "indeterminate". Such varieties can grow continuously, the highest yields are obtained from these tomatoes. Tomatoes with a limited growth point are called "determinate". Cultivars of this type of growth are characterized by a lower stem, slow growth and densely spaced leaves and inflorescences. Determinant varieties are the most optimal for Siberia.

Step 3

Tomatoes are subdivided into varietal and hybrid. Varietal tomatoes are inferior to hybrid tomatoes in yield and are less resistant to adverse conditions. But hybrids lose their characteristics in the second generation, and varietal tomatoes retain their characteristics for several generations. Therefore, any gardener can propagate varietal tomatoes on their own. Also, hybrid tomatoes are inferior in taste to varietal ones.

Step 4

When choosing a tomato variety for Siberia, you need to take into account the weather conditions and growing conditions. Summer in Siberia is short but hot. It is better to grow tomatoes in Siberia in protected ground, the yield will be higher, but experienced gardeners get good harvests in the open ground. You also need to decide what kind of crop you want to get: for use in salads or canning.

Step 5

To get early production, you need to choose early-maturing determinant varieties. These include: "Gina", "White filling 241", "Ground mushroom", "Dubok", "Countryman", "Maisky early". These tomatoes have a fast ripening period. The size of the bushes is quite compact, some varieties do not require pinching and garters.

Step 6

From early maturing hybrids in Siberian conditions, Fiesta F1, Olya F1, Bulat F1, Verlioka F1 have proven themselves well. These hybrids belong to early ripening tomatoes, fruiting occurs 95 days after germination. Even in unfavorable climatic conditions, these hybrids give a high yield and are resistant to diseases. The fruits of the hybrids are suitable not only for making salads, but also for canning.
