Growing lingonberries in the country is an activity available for gardeners from any region of the country, since the plant is frost-resistant. Even if the temperature drops during the flowering period, the shrub will survive and the flowers will not be damaged.

Lingonberry growing conditions

Loose, moisture-absorbing, breathable soil with high acidity is the best medium for growing lingonberries. Peat soils are ideal for this description, but do not despair if, for example, they are sandy in your strip. To grow lingonberries in the country, just add 50% fibrous peat. When choosing a place for planting, give preference to open areas, since lingonberry is a light-loving plant. Of course, it will grow in darkened areas of the garden, but most likely it will not bear fruit here. Initially, lingonberry grows on swampy soils, so it is logical to note that this shrub requires a lot of moisture to grow. The regularity of watering will be directly related to the yield of the plant.

Lingonberry cultivation

Late autumn is the perfect time to plant lingonberries. In the spring, after the seedlings emerge, the best shoots are selected and divided into cuttings. The soil in the greenhouse should consist of a mixture of sand and peat in a 1: 2 ratio. Cuttings 3-5 cm long are planted first in a greenhouse, and after rooting are transferred to a permanent place of growth. It should be noted that when replanting, the soil should be highly moistened and also consist of peat and sand, but in a 1: 1 ratio.

When the lingonberry ripens

The first harvest of lingonberry can be expected in 3-4 years. The berry can be harvested twice in one season. First, the shrub bears fruit in mid-summer (July - August), and the autumn harvest ripens in late September - early October.
