An attic or attic space is available in almost any country house. With relatively small areas, no one, as a rule, wants to clutter up the living space with a heavy stationary staircase. How to make access to the attic space convenient without losing living space? To solve this problem, you can make a folding attic staircase with your own hands.

Necessary

  • - screws;
  • - screwdriver;
  • - goniometer;
  • - wrench;
  • - polyurethane foam;
  • - hacksaw.

Instructions

Step 1

Choose the right folding ladder model

Measure the height of the staircase. It should be noted that, unlike stationary wooden stairs, the opening for a folding attic staircase should be measured from the floor of the lower room to the ceiling of the attic, and not from floor to floor. Choose the model of the folding ladder you like, corresponding to the size.

Step 2

Prepare an opening for the attic staircase. Take all necessary measurements carefully. Make sure the staircase is sized to fit the selected staircase. If necessary, adjust the dimensions of the opening.

Step 3

Fasten anchor bars to the bottom of the attic opening. The ladder will rest on these bars during installation.

Step 4

Lift the stairs to the attic and lay them on the prepared blocks. Insert spacers between the staircase and the edges of the stairwell. Secure the staircase with four screws.

Step 5

Remove extra blocks and unfold the ladder. Secure the sidewalls of the staircase. Carefully seal all gaps with polyurethane foam.

Step 6

Loosen the bolts in the side members of the ladder. Fully unfold the ladder and tighten the bolts securely.

Step 7

Adjust the ladder to the height of the opening. To do this, using the template included in the delivery set, mark the saw line, in accordance with the previously measured height of your ladder. Saw off the bottom of the ladder along the edge of the previously made mark.

Step 8

If necessary, adjust the height and angle of the first rung of the ladder.

Your attic staircase is now complete.
