When performing thermal insulation of residential buildings, foam is often used. The process of warming is usually not difficult, but those who have little construction skills have to face many incomprehensible situations. The study of materials on the topic helps to clarify some of the nuances of the processes.

To insulate a dwelling, the thickness of the foam must be at least 50 mm. For roofs, boards with a thickness of more than 70 mm are used. The density of the foam for insulation is selected at least 25 kg / m3. Where doors, windows, plinths are located, more dowels will be required than with wall cladding. They should be placed no closer than 20 cm from the edge of the plate.

Insulation of corners

When performing thermal insulation measures, special attention should be paid to the processing of the corners of the building. It is best to carry out reinforcement in the process of preparing the surface for finishing, for which a special mesh with a corner is used. It is attached to the glue and gently pressed against the jamb using an angled spatula.

To install the mesh, perform the following activities. The mesh with cells of 3-5 mm is cut into strips with the desired width. Glue is applied to the surface of the wall for reinforcement - its amount should be such that the mass does not fall off the surface and at the same time the mesh could be drowned in it. When the mesh is strengthened, it will need to be carefully leveled with a spatula, and the excess glue must be removed. When a thick layer is applied, cracking may occur.

After the first adhesive layer dries, the second one can be applied. Then they wait three days until it hardens well. The resulting layer is treated with a primer, plastered, after which staining can be performed. For this, a special coloring mixture for facades is used.

Installation of fixing umbrellas on foam

To carry out fastening of plastic dowels-"umbrellas" to the foam, holes for them are preliminarily prepared. With a drill, holes are drilled in the foam and the wall of the required depth. A plastic "umbrella" is inserted into them and a spacer is added.

Insulation reinforcement

Instead of a primer and putty, foam reinforcement is sometimes performed. The process consists in applying a protective layer to the surface of the walls. After fixing the foam plates on the walls, reinforcement with a mesh and a special facade reinforcing mixture is performed. At the end of the process, a solid monolithic layer will be obtained, which will not crack and exfoliate, will not allow the insulating material to collapse.

Tips for improving the properties of the veneer

When performing cladding, some nuances should be taken into account:

1. Try to designate in advance the areas where communications are laid. This will help prevent damage when attaching to the dowels.

2. It is not necessary to fasten all elements closely. With the change of seasons due to expansion of the material, this can bring problems, the thermal insulation will be broken.

3. When insulating a cottage, there is no need to make joints at the boundaries of different materials. For example, when joining wood and brick in this area, an offset of 10 cm or more is performed. Otherwise, the thermal insulation will be defective.

When the wall cladding is finished, you can start finishing it. Materials for this can be chosen any that can provide adhesion to the surface. For example, plaster for wet finishing is considered a convenient option. It will not require special financial costs, and there will be no difficulties in work. Styrofoam does not need to be pre-treated before applying plaster to its surface.
