How to wash a baseball cap so that it does not lose its shape and retains its original appeal?

How to care for your caps

Before washing a hat, you should familiarize yourself with the composition of the fabric and the manufacturer's recommendations. Typically, a label inside the cap will help you choose the right wash, dry, etc. Denim and cotton fabrics can be washed at almost any temperature using detergents, as these fibers are not prone to shrinkage even when washed in hot water.

But caring for a woolen or leather cap requires adherence to special rules:

  • wool should not be washed in hot water (ideally, in cool water with a special detergent for washing cashmere, wool and other delicate fabrics);
  • It is not recommended to wash leather caps at all, since the skin tends to shrink and coarse when wet (it is better to remove dirt with a damp sponge in certain areas).

Before washing, it is worth checking the product for its tendency to shedding: apply a small amount of soap suds on the inside of the cap and rub with a cloth. If, after manipulation, the foam and rag become stained, and after drying, the paint faded in the treated area, the fabric may change color during the washing process. To avoid the formation of streaks on the fabric, it is necessary to rinse the cap in cool water until the powder particles disappear completely. Dry cleaning method can be used.

Of particular difficulty is the visor of the headdress. The cardboard base indicates that such baseball caps should never be washed in water, since the cardboard will instantly swell and lose its shape when wet. Any stains that appear should be removed with a damp cloth or dry method.

Hand wash textile baseball caps

The preferred method of cleaning such items is hand washing. But first, you should familiarize yourself with the recommendations of experienced housewives:

  • with a dry brush, remove surface dirt from the top of the cap (dust, animal hair, hairs, lint, etc.);
  • thoroughly treat heavily soiled areas and greasy stains with a modern stain remover (no chlorine added);
  • place the cloth part of the cap in a soapy water solution and clean the surface inside and outside;
  • the visor is cleaned at the end of the wash, reducing the amount of time in contact with water.

It is very convenient to use a used toothbrush for washing, since the small bristle area will allow you to process even the smallest areas of the cap. Particular attention should be paid to the inner parts, which are in contact with the scalp, as a greasy strip forms there.

In the presence of stickers, logos and embroideries, these places should not be intensively rubbed; in order to maintain integrity, it is recommended to wrap this area with cling film in several layers.

Rinsing is carried out in several stages, gradually lowering the temperature of the water, until the particles of the detergent are completely removed from the fabric.

Leather products can also get dirty during wear, but it is not recommended to wash them with the usual method. How to remove dirt from such things? The dry method is a local impact on the stain without the use of water or with a minimum amount of it. For this, special means or folk recipes are used. For example, wipe the stain with a fresh cut of the onion and then remove the residue with a soft cloth. In case of severe dirt, you can treat the leather cap with a solution of water and ammonia (in a 4: 1 ratio). Treat the surface of the headgear with a soft napkin, avoid strong friction and pressure.

To maintain the original shine of natural leather, it is recommended to periodically wipe things with coffee grounds wrapped in a soft cloth. For fair skin, a similar effect is achieved with a protein foam with the addition of a small amount of milk.
