An alcoholic solution of iodine is available in almost any medicine cabinet. If you use it carelessly, you can not only get your hands dirty, but also spill it on your clothes or on the floor. This drug is very easily soiled and persistent - it is absorbed deeply into the skin, and when rubbed with a rag from any surface, it leaves yellow stains. There are several ways to help you clean out the iodine.

How to wash iodine

It is necessary

  • Sponge and cotton wool
  • Alcohol-based product
  • Acetone
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Laundry soap and washing powder
  • Washer
  • Lemon juice and ascorbic acid
  • Starch and half raw potatoes
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Stain remover
  • Fixer

Instructions

Step 1

Wash iodine from hands and other parts of the body only when urgently needed. If the speck is small, it will absorb itself after a while. Iodine penetrates into the structure of the epidermis. It takes a long time to wipe it off, and it is unlikely that it will benefit your skin. As a last resort, try to wipe off iodine with any alcohol-containing agent - medical or ammonia; alcohol lotion; denatured alcohol or vodka. Iodine is also erased from the skin:

• a soapy sponge dipped in hot water;

• a cotton swab with lemon juice;

• liquid for nail polish remover;

• hydrogen peroxide.

Step 2

Remove iodine stains from clothing with special stain removers suitable for the type of laundry. Pour the detergent over the dirt and wash the item in the washing machine with the addition of detergent. You can also use some of the tools at hand.

• Dampen the iodine stain with dishwashing liquid. After holding for 2 hours, wash your clothes.

• Soak the stained product in water, then rub the stain with potato starch gruel. Wash the thing.

• Immerse clothing in a dirty place in a solution of ammonia and water (a few drops per 200 g). Then wash it by hand with laundry soap or in the washing machine by placing fine shavings of soap directly into the drum.

• If iodine is spilled on colored cloth, it can be removed with acetone or denatured alcohol. Soak a cotton swab in the product and wipe the stain, changing the cotton as it gets dirty.

Step 3

Protect floors and other surfaces from iodine. It eats into them, reacting even with many metals. If this did happen, then you can wash the iodine with a fixer (sodium thiosulfate Na2S2O3). The same one used for printing photographs. Dissolve a teaspoon of this chemical in a glass of water and apply to iodine. A few seconds - and it will fade! If you can't find fixer in photo shops (and you don't have familiar photographers and chemists), try folk remedies. Rub the iodine stain with half a potato or cotton swab dipped in a thick solution of ascorbic acid.
