It is necessary

  • - fine-grained sandpaper;
  • - wood putty;
  • - primer;
  • - varnish;
  • - masking tape on a paper basis;
  • - brush or roller.

Instructions

Step 1

These cabinets can be coated with paint or varnish. Varnish enhances the look. It is important to carry out preparatory work before painting.

Step 2

Use a coarse sandpaper to remove any old paint or varnish. Sand the surface thoroughly to get rid of unevenness as much as possible. Remove dust and dirt.

Step 3

Repair cracks and chips. To do this, apply a putty to create an even surface. If possible, putty the entire surface of the cabinet in two steps. Allow the first coat to dry well, as shrinkage may occur. Apply a second coat of putty.

Step 4

Start a responsible process - grinding. Use fine sandpaper. The result should be an absolutely smooth surface. Remove sanding dust.

Step 5

An equally important stage of preparation is the application of the primer. It will provide a beautiful shine and the most even color of the cabinet surface. Priming can be done with a brush or roller. Apply the first thin layer. Wait until it is completely dry.

Step 6

After finishing the preparatory work, start painting the cabinet. Usually paint or varnish is applied to the chipboard in 2 layers. If you notice irregularities on the surface, then sand it with fine-grained emery paper.

Step 7

When painting individual parts of the surface, use masking tape. It will help prevent streaks and uneven edges. Do not use any other tape in this work. Pieces of paint can stick to it.

Step 8

Leave the cabinet for about a week to dry completely. This time is enough for the varnish to firmly adhere to the surface.

Step 9

When painting, you can use various stencils, with the help of which you get interesting drawings and patterns on the surface of the cabinet.

Step 10

If the ends of your cabinet are damaged, then protect them with veneer. To do this, it is enough to glue the adhesive-coated plastic tape with a heated iron.
