More and more often you can find furniture, doors and windows made of veneer. The products look great, but only as long as they are new. But if you are no longer satisfied with the appearance of the furniture, you should not send it to the trash heap. You can update the coverage yourself or by contacting a workshop.

It is necessary

  • - varnish or paint;
  • - fine emery cloth;
  • - stain;
  • - brushes and roller.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare furniture for paintwork. Remove all decorative elements from it, which can get paint. If it is impossible to unscrew them, then cover them with cellophane wrap (ordinary food will do).

Step 2

Remove the old coating with a fine emery cloth. If the paint is thick enough, use a coarse sandpaper. The procedure is quite long and troublesome, but it is not necessary to use a grinder in order to facilitate labor. It will damage the veneer, as depressions may appear in the material due to high revolutions.

Step 3

If irregularities or chips appear in places, prime them and then level them with wood putty. Wait until it is completely dry, then lightly sand with a sandpaper.

Step 4

Stir in the stain and apply in two coats for an even and rich color. If you are using water-based or enamel paint, then you do not need to give a shade.

Step 5

If you decide to paint the veneer with paint, then apply it in several layers. With varnish, everything is a little more complicated. Apply the first coat, let it dry. If "splinters" stick out in places, then remove them with sandpaper.

Step 6

Use a roller to coat the veneer with a second coat of varnish for a smoother finish. Make sure that there are no smudges, it will be very difficult to remove them. To do this, roll the roller well in a special pallet.

Step 7

Make sure that during the drying process of the coating, dust and other dirt does not get on it, otherwise you will have to go all the way through staining the veneer from the very beginning.

Step 8

After about 1-2 days, screw on all the removed decorative elements. It is undesirable to do this earlier, as the varnish dries for 48 hours.
