If you have a standard chandelier with boring plain shades, then it is easy to change it - to paint or paint. Metal can be painted in three ways: acrylic paint, alkyd enamel or spray enamel.

It is necessary

  • - brush;
  • - acrylic paint;
  • - spray paint;
  • - gloves;
  • - protective mask;
  • - stencils.

Instructions

Step 1

An old metal chandelier can be painted. It will become beautiful and bright again, it will decorate the interior for many years to come. Purchase alkyd enamel, acrylic paint, or spray paint. Alkyd enamel holds up better than other paints. It needs to be applied in several layers.

Step 2

Clean and degrease the metal parts of the chandelier (using sandpaper and acetone). Apply the first layer of enamel with a brush. Wait until it is completely dry. After that, paint the details of the chandelier again until you achieve the desired color effect (rich or delicate color). Remember that acrylic enamel has a very unpleasant smell, so it is undesirable to work with it in the house - it is better in the fresh air or at least on the balcony.

Step 3

Art acrylic adheres very well to metal, however, it is not resistant. If you decide to use this method of painting, then keep in mind that you will need to update the color of the chandelier every two to three months. You can also cover the acrylic paint with a clear varnish - so the color will be bright for a longer period.

Step 4

Cover everything around with paper or newspapers if you intend to paint a metal chandelier with paint, spraying it from a can. This is the fastest way to renovate a chandelier, but not very convenient, as paint is sprayed in all directions. Prepare the surface for painting. Remove dust, sand with sandpaper, degrease with acetone. Stir the contents of the can by shaking it - this will make the color uniform and prevent the spray bottle from clogging.

Step 5

Perform a test spray by pressing lightly on the sprayer. Hold the can upright, spraying the paint in a thin layer at a distance of 25 cm. In order to achieve the most saturated color, paint the surface in several coats, taking a break between each application for two to three minutes.

Step 6

Paint or paint glass shades (matte, glossy, transparent) in any color you like. To do this, purchase special paints designed for painting on glass (sold in stores for artists). Apply a design or pattern that matches the overall interior of your home. Use ready-made stencils (make your own or purchase from art stores) if in doubt about your artistic talents.
