If the bed or sofa sofa has warped and lost its former appeal, try re-tightening the mattress. Today in the furniture market there are firms that can take on this work. However, you can change the upholstery of the old berth and even restore the filling with your own hands. With a certain skill, you can completely transform an old product without a large financial investment.

It is necessary

  • - scissors;
  • - materials for packing repair (springs, felt);
  • - darning needle and thread;
  • - furniture polyurethane foam;
  • - glue for foam rubber;
  • - brush or spray gun;
  • - construction knife;
  • - ruler;
  • - centimeter;
  • - furniture fabric;
  • - tailor's chalk;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - overlock;
  • - threads and sewing needle;
  • - elastic band.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove the old mattress lining and examine the filling carefully. The sleeping place should be moderately hard and perfectly flat - otherwise you risk not only comfort during sleep, but also your health. Even a damaged element of the spring block can be replaced at home. The desired purchase can be made at the hardware store. If necessary, contact a company that changes individual springs and even manufactures them from individual sketches.

Step 2

After checking the frame, take care of a flat bed box. Damaged areas can be patched with a layer of furniture felt - it is sewn by hand to the spring block. Then it is recommended to cover the mattress with furniture polyurethane foam. To do this, take out a material of increased rigidity, 3 cm thick, for example, foam rubber with a standard ST marking. Before buying, study the characteristics of the product - for a mattress, take polyurethane foam with a density of at least 30 kg / m3.

Step 3

Cut the foam to fit the size of the bed. Mark the edges of the cut parts with a marker, then make cuts with a ruler and a sharpened construction knife. When cutting, guide the tool perfectly straight and do not make a sawing motion.

Step 4

Clean the bonded parts of the foam rubber with a brush and apply furniture glue (for example, "Foam-2", "Rapid-100" or Tapicer Spray 47-52) with a spray gun or brush. Follow the instructions on the product packaging. Usually, the adhesive mixture must be kept on foam rubber before gluing (for different brands - from 1-3 to 20-45 minutes). After open curing, firmly squeeze the adjacent polyurethane foam padding cuts.

Step 5

Proceed to tighten the mattress. A cover can be made for the front of the bed - it can be easily put on the bed (sofa) and removed for washing. Choose a working fabric of the desired color and take measurements for the length, width and thickness of the mattress.

Step 6

Cut out the parts of the cover: the main panel (length and width of the mattress) and 4 sides (thickness of the berth). The sides will be made in the form of hem. When cutting cut pieces, leave wide seam allowances to form a drawstring for the elastic.

Step 7

Sew the beads to the main panel with a straight machine stitch. Overlock or hand overlock the edges of the parts. Make a hem and sew the edges. You just have to thread the elastic into the drawstring and pull the finished cover over the mattress.
