Most garden flowers and plants love sunny locations with plenty of light and sunshine. However, on personal plots, there are usually many corners located in the shade, which you also want to somehow decorate with flowering flower beds.

Place for a flower garden

When choosing plants for a future flower bed of a shady area, it is necessary to take into account many conditions that affect the growth and development of a flower. To fulfill these conditions, you need to carefully look at the proposed landing site in order to find out how long the direct sunlight is there. As a result of such observations, it is possible to classify the site for future plantings.

Shade implies only 3 hours of direct sunlight in the middle of the day, when the rest of the time there is practically no illumination of the site.

The penumbra at the peak of the solstice is in the shade, and during the rest of the day there is a 3-hour illumination. This category also includes areas with good illumination of the flower bed throughout the day, but without the penetration of direct sunlight.

The sparse shade allows the garden to be exposed to the sun's rays, which penetrate the sparse foliage of the trees.

Flower garden in a dry shady place

Usually such places are located under large trees that tightly block the sun and take almost all nutrients from the soil with their root system. At the same time, the shade does not allow moisture to evaporate, but at the same time, the powerful crown of the tree practically does not let the rain through. Shady bulbous plants that bloom in early spring or late autumn are perfect for such places.

Of the spring representatives, primroses showed themselves best of all, which give the first shoots as soon as the snow melts among the garden trees, because this is their natural habitat. Early flowering snowdrops, hyacinths, daffodils, crocuses or primroses will serve as a worthy decoration for any dry shady garden. During the winter and spring, the bulbs of these flowers accumulate the moisture they need, which helps them to bloom, and in summer they stay at rest.

The boring autumn landscape will be adorned with autumn crocuses, lycoris, colchicum. Colchicum can be easily confused with crocus, but it belongs to the most common crocus flowers that bloom in autumn. The autumn cyclamen and the hardy incense feel great in the garden penumbra, and from aconite, you can build a real decorative wall.

A flower garden in a damp, shady place

Such places are characterized by free penetration of precipitation and soil structure, which can retain moisture for a long time. Among the disadvantages of wet shade, slug breeding can be noted, which can damage plantings.

All types of daylilies, aquilegia, kupena, astilba, hosta and other unpretentious plants with large leaves are referred to moisture-loving shade plants. Separately, I would like to talk about astilbe, which can delight the eye with flowers from purple to milky white. In shady and humid areas of the garden, it will give a long and abundant flowering, which will really decorate the backyard. Bells, ferns, male duckweed, ostrich feel comfortable in such places. The magnificent dicentra in bright sunlight can fall into a state of rest, so that with the arrival of the first coolness and autumn rains, it will please the eye with an unusual flowering.
