Most of the houses in Russian villages look extremely unsightly. There are many reasons for this, the main one being time. Once-solid houses stand with black boxes and frighten everyone who passes by. But there are some techniques that can be used to embellish a village house. One of these methods is the installation of a bay window on the facade of the attic.

It is necessary

  • - edged boards 25 and 50 mm thick, 100 mm wide;
  • - construction and painting tools, including gasoline and electric;
  • - an additional pair of rafter legs;
  • - a roof covering similar to the existing one;
  • - nails or screws;
  • - a window block suitable in size for the future bay window;
  • - any paint on wood.

Instructions

Step 1

Identify the façade of the house that needs renovation most. Remove the attic trim. If the boards are still usable, set them aside.

Step 2

Determine the center of the upper log of the front part of the facade to be repaired. Step back from it in both directions along the log by 25-40 cm and make notches. In these places, saw through grooves 100 mm high and 50 mm wide. Saw off two pieces of 50 to 60 cm long from thick boards and insert them parallel to each other into the cut grooves. In the future, this pair of boards will have a bearing definition.

Step 3

At the same time or a little later, lengthen two beams with thick boards on which the roof rafters rest. Do this as far as the supporting boards protrude. Extend the roof ridge the same length. Then place an additional pair of rafters on the protruding parts of the Mauerlats. Fasten them vertically to the ridge run and to the bottom harness. Sheathe this part of the roof and lay the roofing material on it.

Step 4

Connect the ends of the supporting boards and new rafters with other boards strictly vertically. Make or purchase a window unit that fits perfectly between two vertical planks. Install it at a suitable height and secure. Support the bottom of the block on a horizontal beam, also nailed between the vertical posts at the required level.

Step 5

Step back from the notches of the supporting boards by another 35-50 mm in both directions along the upper log. Their depth may not exceed 20 mm, and their width and length are 100 and 50 mm, respectively. Measure the distance from the bottom of the cuts to the rafters. Saw off two pieces along this length from the thick board and reinforce them. Thus, the bay window frame is mounted. Sheathe it and any remaining gaping parts of the attic. Hem the bottom of the bay window. If you wish, you can glaze the side parts of the bay window. Paint the bay window. Install the platbands at the joints of the ends of the boards and also paint them.

Step 6

Carry out the interior decoration of the attic facade. Install the windowsill. The bay window is ready.
