Instructions

Buy pineapple from the supermarket or grocery store. When buying, check its top, it should be intact, fresh, with green leaves, not frozen. It is best to purchase pineapples for planting in summer or autumn. Using a large, sharp kitchen knife, cut off the top of the fruit 2 centimeters from the beginning of the leaf growth and leave it upright for 2 days to dry. Next, place the plant a few centimeters in a glass of water and store it in a place that's not exposed to bright sunlight or excessive heat. Change the water every 2-3 days. The roots begin to form after about two to three weeks.

Prepare a clay pot with a drainage hole: place a drain on the bottom, then backfill with soil, add fertilizer. Make a small depression in the center of the ground and place the dried top of the fruit in it, compact with earth. Using garden shears, strip the trunk a little: remove the small leaves at the base of the pineapple, leaving only the large ones.

Water the plant with water. Next, you will need to water the pineapple only once a week and fertilize every two months. Do not use chemical fertilizers. Keep pineapple in a warm, sunny place with a temperature of at least 20 degrees. Avoid drafts.

In tropical conditions, pineapple grows for about 20 months, at home it will take longer. For the first months, you can cover the fruit with a glass jar, thus creating a favorable climate for it. After 2 months, the pineapple should finally take root. To check if the roots have taken root, it is enough to slightly pull the plant by the trunk, if it does not come out of the soil, then everything is in order.

Useful Tips

Indoor pineapples can be placed outdoors during the summer. It is important to keep the plant in the shade for the first days until it adapts to the new climate.

Transplant the plant to a different pot every year, or whenever you notice that the pineapple is cramped in the old pot. It is best to use the transplanting method to avoid damaging the roots of the plant.

Home-grown pineapple may not reach the size you are used to seeing on supermarket shelves. Homemade pineapple is considered ripe when it turns yellow and smells like pineapple.

For watering, use settled water acidified with lemon juice. The water should be warm, about 30 degrees.
