Preparing the landing site

The site for planting the future apricot tree should be moderately sunny and well protected from cold winds. At the same time, groundwater should lie at a level of 2 meters in depth. It is recommended to plant the seedling in the spring after the snow melts, before the apricot buds swell. Planting stone fruit plants in the fall is risky, since if the winter is not snowy, they will freeze.

Suitable soils

For an apricot tree, all loose soils are suitable, but only they should not have an excess of nitrogen and toxic salts. It is best that the earth be of relatively light texture. The best soils for growing apricots are loamy and light loamy.

Growing

An apricot tree can be grown from a seed and a seedling. In the first case, the plant will be adapted to local conditions. However, you need to take a responsible approach to the choice of seed-seed fruits. They can be purchased on the market, but you should not give preference to imported and Armenian varieties, since the size of the fruits will be too large. It is recommended to plant seed seeds immediately in moist soil to a depth of 6 cm. Such a measure will ensure almost 100% germination.

If you don't want to wait long, you should purchase an apricot seedling and plant it on the site. It is best to buy it from the nursery and not from the market. So, it will be possible to avoid various pests from entering the soil and there will be confidence that it is really an apricot.

Pit preparation

For an apricot seedling, the pit must be prepared 3 weeks before planting. In depth, it should be 40-50 cm, and in width - from 60 cm to 80 cm. The pit must be filled with good fertile soil, which is mixed with fertilizer. As a rule, up to 2 buckets of manure, about 500 g of potassium sulfate and about 700 g of granular superphosphate are introduced into one planting pit. When planting, the root collar of the seedling should be 7 cm above the ground.

Pruning

In early spring, annual seedlings must be pruned. This procedure is carried out annually. It is necessary to remove the weak, slightly frozen ends of the branches from the tree. Too long powerful shoots are also shortened. It is also recommended to remove extra shoots “on the ring”, which create a strong thickening of the plant crown. After pruning, all the cuts on the tree must be covered with garden varnish, but for these purposes it is allowed to use thickly grated paints: ocher, soot or red lead. They must first be diluted with natural linseed oil.
