The roof is an integral part of any home. It must be strong and reliable, keep warm and protect housing from unnecessary moisture. Therefore, it is very important not only to build the roof correctly, but also to insulate it well.

Instructions

Step 1

For roof insulation, you can use modern materials such as rigid fiberglass, mineral wool and polystyrene foam plates, foam concrete or foamed glass. All of them have different degrees of thermal conductivity, water absorption, vapor permeability and environmental friendliness.

Step 2

The most demanded roof insulation is a mineral wool slab. This material is able to withstand temperatures of over 1000 degrees, so it is actually not subject to combustion. Mineral wool slab differs from other heaters in its rather low thermal conductivity and water absorption. In addition, it practically does not undergo deformation and perfectly protects the house from unnecessary noise from the outside. Such plates are easy to fit and perfectly fit together.

Step 3

You can insulate a flat roof of a house with both external and internal methods, in one layer or in two. The external method is much easier to implement. But having chosen it, you will need to determine exactly whether the supporting structure of the house will withstand the weight of roofing and heat-insulating materials.

Step 4

To insulate a non-flat roof, for example, a pitched or attic roof, you will need to use another technology. When insulating the slope, be sure to leave an air gap between the thermal insulation material and the roofing. Take care of the presence of a vapor barrier, necessary to protect the roof from steam penetrating from inside the house. Often it is already built into the insulation. In the absence of this layer, you will have to mount it separately.

Step 5

Most often, the thermal insulation layer is placed either between the rafters or on top of them. But if you need to insulate the roof of an already finished house, the thermal insulation will have to be installed only under the rafters. To insulate a mansard roof, place slabs of insulating material on inclined surfaces between the rails leading from the base of the roof to the ridge.

Step 6

If there is an attic in the structure of the house that is not used as a living space, insulate only its floor. If an attic is being used, be sure to lay insulation material over the roof slopes.

Step 7

If you want your home to be truly warm, think about insulating not only its roof, but also walls, windows, and also the floor.
