Growing pepper seedlings takes approximately 8-10 weeks, depending on conditions and variety. This process includes several stages: selection and sorting of seeds, selection of soil and containers for growing, sowing and further care, including watering and fertilizing.

At the first stage, you need to correctly select the necessary seeds and sort them. Among the best and proven varieties are Bogatyr, Snowfall, Red and Golden Miracle, Hercules and others. Seeds harvested the year before last are ideal for sowing. To sort them, small, ugly and dark seeds are discarded at once. You can also prepare a solution of table salt (for 1 liter of water 50 g of salt), in which the seeds are immersed. Those that float to the surface are not suitable, but those that sink to the bottom will be suitable for growing.

Then the seeds are disinfected. To do this, they are immersed in a dark solution of potassium permanganate for 15 minutes and washed in clean water.

It is preferable to grow pepper seedlings without picking. Therefore, it is better to select a container for it in the form of separate pots without further transplanting. To do this, you can purchase peat pots or cut ordinary milk cartons. The containers must not be transparent, as this will slow down the growth of plants.

For pepper seedlings, it is important to properly prepare the potting mix. It should be loose so that oxygen can pass well to the roots, and without crusting after watering. This can cause the stem to shrink and crack, through which harmful microorganisms and bacteria can penetrate. And the plant will develop poorly. Therefore, the soil should consist, for example, of 3 parts of fertile land from the garden, 1 part of humus, 1 part of sawdust, 0.5 liters of wood ash and 30 g of superphosphate. Also, the composition of the soil mixture may include peat, river sand with the addition of urea, dolomite flour or complex fertilizer. Even in the purchased soil, you need to add a little sawdust and fertile land from the site.

For better growth, the seeds can be soaked in a growth promoter for one day, such as epine. This is done just before landing. They are first wrapped in cloth, and then rinsed in clean water. Also, the seeds can be subjected to either germination or hardening. When germinating, the seeds are wrapped in a damp cloth for 5-6 days and placed on a small plate. From above, the container is closed with a bag. After the sprouts appear, they begin to sow.

Containers for growing seedlings are washed and disinfected. Then soil is poured and small depressions are made up to 1 cm. This is the maximum depth of sowing seeds. They are laid in this hole and sprinkled on top with sifted soil separately. Next, watering is carried out and the soil is compacted. This will allow the seedlings to release the seed coats more quickly and easily. Containers with seedlings are covered with foil to maintain humidity and placed in a warm, bright place. In this case, the temperature in the room should be about +25 degrees. Pepper is a rather thermophilic plant. During the first days, it will be effective to arrange additional lighting for the seedlings.

Sprouted seeds germinate after 5 days, and dry seeds - after 8-10 days. After that, the film must be removed. At this moment, the temperature regime is reduced. To do this, for 5-6 days, the seedlings are rearranged in a cool place with a temperature of about +20 degrees. This will allow a strong root system to appear, and the plants will not grow sharply. And then they are transferred back to normal growing conditions.

Watering plants is carried out in the morning without much enthusiasm. If they are poured, then the seedlings of pepper can develop the disease "black leg".

The first feeding is carried out 2-3 weeks after sowing in the presence of 3-4 true leaves. At this moment, the seedlings of pepper simply need phosphorus and potassium. For this, a fertilizer such as "Kemira Universal" is suitable. The next fertilization will be required when the seedlings have 10-12 leaves.

During the entire growing period, the seedling containers are constantly turned in different directions to the sunlight for uniform illumination.

After a certain point in time, the pepper seedlings will be ready for planting in a greenhouse or greenhouse. Moreover, it should have 10-15 leaves, 1-2 buds and a height of about 30 cm.

Before transplanting to new growing conditions, the seedlings are hardened in advance. To do this, in 2-3 weeks, they begin to open the window or window in the room for a while. At the same time, pepper does not like drafts very much. For 2 weeks, a couple of lower leaves are also cut off and treated for the appearance of diseases. Before planting, the soil is carefully spilled in order to avoid its destruction.

Each person independently chooses the method of growing pepper seedlings at home. But if you follow all the basic requirements and rules, then you can get a plentiful and high yield of this vegetable.
