Any silver will blacken or tarnish over time and so sooner or later you will have to find ways to clean it up. One of the simplest and most affordable is cleaning silver with ammonia.

Instructions

Step 1

It should be remembered that if this is a silver product with precious stones, then ammonia should be used with caution (no more than 5 drops per glass of water). It is not recommended to use ammonia when cleaning products with pearls, as the pearls may darken under the influence of ammonia.

Step 2

Do not use coarse sponges when cleaning silver, so as not to scratch the surface of products and spoil small parts. For regular cleaning of silver (at least once a week), a soap solution will be sufficient (except for the old "family" silver). In the event that the silver is heavily soiled and tarnished, it is better to contact a jewelry workshop.

Step 3

Prepare warm soapy water first. Immerse the silver in it, then remove, rinse thoroughly and wipe with a suede cloth. Prepare a mixture of ammonia and chalk. Apply this paste-like mass to the surface of the product. Wait a little until this solution hardens. Then rinse the silver with plain water and wipe dry with a cloth.

Step 4

Take a container large enough to fit any silver item. Prepare an aqueous solution of ammonia in a ratio of 1:10 (for example, 1 tablespoon of alcohol to 10 tablespoons of water). Immerse the silver in the resulting solution of ammonia for 15-30 minutes (depending on the degree of contamination of the surface of the product).

Step 5

Use ammonia when cleaning your silverware. Mix 5 parts water with 2 parts ammonia and 1 part tooth powder (if you can find it in modern stores). Wipe the dishes with a soft cloth soaked in this solution until you remove any dirt from the surfaces. Silverware should not be tarnished or tarnished. After cleaning, rinse the appliances thoroughly in running water and dry with a towel.

Step 6

Never use ammonia when cleaning gilded silver items, as this will simply destroy the gilding on the surface of the item.
