Instructions

Step 1

Cucumbers are very delicate plants, they are absolutely not adapted to survival in our climatic zone, therefore, their cultivation must be approached with special diligence. Planting cucumbers begins with the selection of seed. Do not fall for the bright pictures that are full of numerous packages. In today's market of seeds you will not find any kind of cucumbers. But do not lose your head, purposefully look for those varieties that are familiar to you. Behind a beautiful picture, there may be seeds of varieties that, in our climate, simply will not grow, so you will not get any harvest. Time and money will be wasted.

Step 2

Open the packages you bought at home, sort the seeds by hand. You shouldn't even try to plant empty, injured and puny seeds, all the same, nothing good will grow from them. Wet cheesecloth, wrap healthy seeds in it, put on a saucer of water and put in a warm place for a day or two. In the meantime, fill the pots with earth.

Step 3

It is worth starting to prepare the soil for seedlings in advance, a couple of weeks before planting, and even better in the fall. Each gardener has his own recipe secrets, but the usual soil for cucumbers should contain equal parts of garden soil and compost. Cucumber roots break off very easily, so it is better to fill peat pots with earth, with which the seedlings can be transferred to the garden.

Step 4

Make two indentations in each pot with your finger at some distance from each other, dip a cucumber seed into them, sprinkle with earth and pour with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Cucumbers are light-loving plants, so keep your seedlings in a well-lit room at around 18-20 degrees.

Step 5

Literally in 3-4 days you will have the first shoots. Discard frail plants without undue pity. Seedlings should be watered every other day; special fertilizing and fertilizers can be added to the water. After 25-30 days, you can already plant cucumbers in open ground.
