Blackening of tomatoes can provoke common rot, lack or excess of fertilizer, excess moisture, and plant pests. With proper care and timely treatment, tomatoes can be saved from this scourge.

First you need to determine the cause of the appearance of black spots. If the blackness spreads throughout the tomato, and the pulp under it is always hard and devoid of juice, then the plant has been struck by dry top rot. It appears when the soil is excessively salinized, which happens when a large amount of fertilizer is applied. The way out is simple: you need to stop feeding for a while. In addition, rot can appear with a lack of calcium. In this case, you can spray the tomatoes with a solution of calcium nitrate.

Tomatoes can also turn black due to very dry soil and the so-called "crawling" of the roots to the surface. In this case, tomatoes will intensively absorb moisture from the air, which usually occurs unevenly. From here, the fruits become covered with dark spots.

The reason for the appearance of blackness on tomatoes may be the lack of trace elements such as magnesium and boron. In this situation, you can feed the plants with a solution of magnesium sulfate and boric acid.

Most often tomatoes are covered with black spots due to a disease called late blight. It affects not only fruits, but also stems, leaves of tomato. The development of late blight is facilitated by high air humidity, sharp temperature fluctuations, cold dew, frequent morning fogs and a small distance between the bushes. Similar weather conditions usually occur in August, just in time for the ripening of tomatoes. If the humidity in your area is always high, you should spray tomatoes with Bordeaux liquid as a preventive measure.

In addition, tomatoes can turn black due to industrial emissions. Not a single gardener is insured against this, whose plot is located not far from any plant. Regardless of the cause of the black spots, always remove the affected fruit. It is best to burn the affected green parts of the plant.
