Instructions

Step 1

The construction of a cellar should begin with choosing a location. A dry, elevated area is best suited for this purpose. The selected site is marked out by drawing on the ground the dimensions of the cellar along its outer walls. If there is vegetation on the site, it must be removed. It is better to choose a dry season when there is no rain for building a cellar.

Step 2

The sketched contour serves as a boundary for digging a foundation pit. From the contour line in the outward direction, select the soil, throwing it to the side, away from the place of the future cellar. Crumbling soil can complicate the work, in which case it will be necessary to build supporting walls.

Step 3

The dimensions of the pit should be made in size that exceed the planned dimensions of the cellar by about a meter. This will facilitate subsequent plastering and waterproofing work.

Step 4

Choosing the soil, they form the bottom of the future cellar and its walls. The walls of the cellar are placed on the resulting base. The base under the future walls is made extremely clean, without backfilling.

Step 5

The walls of the cellar are made of bricks or stones, interlocking them with mortar. You can also arrange formwork by pouring concrete into it. Provide adequate space for stairs and shelves, as well as for hanging electrical equipment and lighting.

Step 6

Pay special attention to your flooring. To do this, carefully level the bottom of the pit, compact it with a tamper, and then lay several layers of clay on it in succession. Make the topmost layer of concrete, its thickness should be at least 50 mm.

Step 7

If you decide to make the walls of wood, stock up on boards in advance. In the corners of the pit, dig in the pillars, previously treated with waterproof mastic. Nail a layer of boards to the pillars from the inside. Then cover the walls with tar paper or foil, and fill the empty space between the boards and the outer walls of the pit with earth. The walls in the form of a log house will look much more solid, but its construction can become more laborious.

Step 8

The overlap is made from thick bars or logs. Boards are laid on such beams. Provide for the presence of a hatch and pipes for ventilation of the cellar. It is preferable to make the hatch square. The overlap is insulated with a layer of slag or earth. The hatch cover is finished with heat-insulating material.

Step 9

For a ventilation device, two pipes will fit; pipes made of plastic, with a cross section of 10-15 cm, are best suited. The pipes should be placed at different ends of the cellar.

Step 10

The interior of the cellar includes various shelves for storing food. Provide free space between the shelves, this is necessary for air access.

Step 11

The upper part of the cellar will be located above the surface of the earth and will protect the lower part from cooling in winter and overheating in summer. In this part of the cellar, it is convenient to store containers left over from products that have been stored.

Step 12

A well-designed and well-prepared cellar will provide long-term storage of a variety of products.
